Furthermore, it may be useful to teachers to survey students beforehand to gain a diagnostic understanding of what they already know.
Nevertheless, it should be remembered that this topic is not a major part of the biology curriculum, and teachers should restrain the emphasis they place on this topic accordingly, without making too great a part of the overall evaluation of the student.
