Background Information:
- Blood Pressure is the pressure exerted on the walls of the arteries
- It is generated as your heart ejects blood into the aorta with every beat
- The aorta and other arteries have muscular walls that allow them to expand and passively recoil as the ventricles contract and relax
- During systole, the aorta expands to accept the blood from the heart and a wave of pressure is generated throughout all the arteries
- During diastole, the aorta recoils, propelling blood along the arteries into the arterioles and capillaries

Lesson Outline:
Hook: By participating in this activity, students get familiar with key terms related to blood pressure.
Action: In this project, students will write a LabVIEW program to display the blood pressure of a test subject. They will use a Vernier Blood Pressure Sensor, a non-invasive unit that includes a handheld pump, pressure release valve, and cuff. It will be a hands on activity and will let teachers to have assessment OF learning.
By watching this video, students get to know about the problems related to high blood pressure. This can be done as a "four corners" group activity.
Debrief: Through this lab investigation, students learn effects of age and gender on blood pressure. If physical lab equipment and place is not available, this virtual lab can be easily accommodated in any lesson plan.
